Fans of j-pop and street racing might want to consider getting themselves a Playstation 3 as the extremely well known arcade game, Initial D Arcade Stage 4 is racing to the PS3 as soon as the summer for Japan. An international release has yet to be announced but is expected to follow sometime in the near future.

The primary upgrade to the console version of Initial D will of course be it’s souped up graphic capabilities. The feature that is most exciting and shows most promise is the new online racing mode for the home. Something similar to the “National Tournament” mode found in the arcade version where players can rise in class by successfully beating their online opponents. As you beat opponents and progress in levels, higher skilled opponents and other bonuses will automatically unlock.

Overlord: Scorching on the PS3

Posted on: 27, Feb

The PlayStation 3 is the latest beneficiary of the Codemasters soon to be released Overlord. Better late than never, this should be a relief and a most welcome addition to a PS3 owner’s library. Overlord had mixed reviews on the Xbox 360 last year and it’s strangely violent take on the Pikmin formula was for the most part, well received. The game allows you to take charge as an overlord who strikes fear to its minions.

over.jpgThe best news for PS3 owners who had been waiting more than a year for this release, is that Codemasters will pack all of the downloadable content that had been made available to Xbox 360 owners in the game before it is shipped. That is over 2 months of downloadable content free on the PlayStation 3 version for those cranky PS3 owners.

According to the company’s recent press release, the title will be available this summer and will feature the original game as well as an added expansion pack, which will probably feature all that downloadable content. The PS3 edition will also feature an online co-op mode and enhanced visuals for your viewing pleasure.

Space Invaders Extreme for the Nintendo DS officially marks the franchise’s 30th anniversary. To celebrate in true old-school style, this remake will feature all new power-ups handed to you by shooting four aliens of the same color. The power ups come in a variety of colors and each of them give an extra twist to this old-school classic.

The red power ups will allow you to drop cluster bombs, the green ones give you a wide spread gun, and the blue gives you control over a massive laser beam that has the ability to cut thru a row of aliens like a hot knife through butter. What’s the catch to these power ups? You must shoot four aliens of the same exact color in order to get them, if you shoot three red and then a green, you have to start right back from square one. Also, if you have a power up and get another one, you lose the one you had before. These small yet addicting new features brings another dimension and brand-new game play to this old-school classic.

Toss in added Paddle Controls (A peripheral made specifically for Arkanoid DS), a killer soundtrack and some great looking graphics and you have yourself an excellent remake of a classic that will be sure to have you hooked like the classic game did back in your high school days.

The bad news in all this is that no publisher has officially announced this game’s release date. Square Enix is said to release the game sometime in the summer for $19.99 but there has been no official word as of yet

Microsoft made a big splash at GDC 2008 with the announcement of Gears of War 2 set to release in November. Developers and press got to see a game trailer of the new Gears and the initial impressions where one of great excitement. Additionally, they showed the third installment of Fable complete with a new multiplayer mode and the ability to kill your friend’s virtual husband or wife for extra kicks.

All of these games made quite the spectacle, but none like the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 2.coming out June 2008. The game showed a trailer that showed immense levels and crazy looking enemies with upgraded weapons and massive bosses. It also introduced something new to the series, the ability to record your own game play video that drew great reactions from everyone present.

Ninja Gaiden 2, which allows the gamer to guide Ryu Hayabusa on a mission to avenge his clan and ultimately stop the destruction of the human race, has been highly anticipated by Xbox 360 owners. The game promises a brand new gameplay engine and will feature new enemies and locales along with an abundant arsenal of ninja weaponry.

It is unquestionable that the Xbox 360 has a great game line up for this year and GDC 2008 simply confirmed this fact. With heavy hitting games such as Gears 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Fable 3, other platforms better step their game up for this upcoming year.

nfs.jpgThe long awaited Need for Speed ProStreet has finally arrived for the PSP, one year late is better than never right? Not in this case.

While all of the Need for Speed games have been centered on tuning your cars and tweaking them for optimum performance, this game lacks severely in those categories. Also, instead of giving the player an open world, the game has return to its single-track racing roots. To top all of that off, the track design is passable at best, not too much to keep you hooked on the game after a few plays.

The customization is pretty straightforward. You can replace your stock engine to a Level 2 or Level 3 engine and the trend continues for just about any other customization. The implementation of this feature is simply messy and a bit boring, nothing new or even improved from previous versions. Add to that the fact that you can’t apply individual decals and you are left with a stripped, almost naked version of the original.

Graphically speaking the game still offers nothing to make it stand out from the crowd. It probably digs itself in a bigger hole by putting an annoying glaze over the whole racing screen to give the player a better feel for the speed being experienced. This does nothing of the sort and actually takes away from the gaming experience since the whole feature is simply annoying like many other little things on the game.

Simply put, unless you are a hardcore fan of the series, steer very far away from this game or buy it for a different console.

According to a Feb. 24th press release, EA is in serious talks to acquire Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc for a whopping $2.0 billion. The proposal would buyout all outstanding stocks in cash at a 64 percent premium equaling $26 per share. The public letter was brought forth after Take-Two’s Board of Directors rejected the proposal and according to EA’s CEO John Riccitiello, they where simply trying to make all of Take-Two stockholder’s aware of the company’s decision to deny the large sum of cash.

Mr. Riccitiello called for immediate action from Take-Two so the sale could go through and he warned that there would likely be no other offer presented to Take-Two that involved so much money and immediate profit for their stockholders like this deal would. He added that all of the staff at Take-Two would benefit from added financial resources, better management teams, and outstanding global publishing capabilities if the acquisition were to happen.

Although the proposal was formally offered to Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick on February 19th, EA decided to leave the proposal on the table for a while longer to allow the shareholder’s to play a role in the company’s decision. They are hoping that a timely sale could still allow for them to continue to market the current hit GTA IV and also provide ongoing support for all of the Take-Two titles scheduled to launch this year.
