Attempting to pass legislations that affect how games are sold today is nothing new. There had been various attempts over the years to influence the kind of games available for sale and how it will be sold to the youth. However, all these attempts have failed. Now, there is a bill called A11717 that is written by Joseph Lentol; it already passed the New York State Assembly and it is now sitting on the Senate. This is quite a familiar story but what is written on the bill is already being practiced by the gaming industry.

For example, it stated that game consoles need to have parental locks included for mature content. The bill also wants game manufacturers to print the ESRB rating on the title cover. While both these measures sound great on paper, it is actually already implemented everywhere. It is unclear what the new bill hopes to achieve.

But things to get a little silly because the bill also want to form a group who will give recommendations about ratings that have an effect on “youth violence”. The group is to have 16 members that are appointed by the governor; the group will meet twice a year. Now, the group will talk about nothing but video games, with no pay, twice a year, what will this achieve?
